Tools for Riders With Attention, Anxiety and Learning Challenges to Achieve Their Goals on and off the Horse

Feeling Stuck, Anxious, or Frustrated as a Rider?  Or For Riders Who Want to Feel More Grounded, Confident, and Connected.

If horse shows leave you feeling frustrated, anxious, or stuck, it’s time to take a new approach. Dr. Wendy Rice, Founder of Rice Psychology Group, is a licensed psychologist with a background in neuropsychology and down-to-earth therapy with kids and adults. She is also a competitive equestrian who has competed in hunters, jumpers and equitation locally and on the A-Circuit.

Have you or your child already tried working with a regular therapist, sports psychologist, mindset or mental coach without seeing the results you were hoping for? Are the problems continuing?

Are you a trainer who is feeling frustrated with your child, junior or adult clients not reaching the potential you see in them? Do you wish you felt more “on the same page” with your riders and their families?

What Makes Dr. Wendy and The ADD Equestrian Different?

If you’ve tried the usual methods to improve your riding or competition performance but still feel stuck, Dr. Wendy can help. With decades of riding and competing and extensive expertise as a psychologist, she goes beyond traditional mindset coaching and sports psychology to uncover what’s truly getting in the way.

Dr. Wendy is who people turn to when they’ve already worked with other coaches, trainers, or mental health professionals and are still struggling. She has a unique ability to create connection, make sense of challenges that feel overwhelming or unsolvable, and help equestrians gain clarity and develop a real plan for progress.

While she leads with kindness and empathy, Dr. Wendy is also a no-nonsense problem solver who digs just deeply enough to uncover underlying issues so meaningful solutions can rise to the surface. Nothing is more frustrating than wanting to succeed but not knowing what’s holding you back—or worse, having others think you’re just not trying hard enough when that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Perhaps what’s beneath the surface has something to do with:

  • Attention, memory, or focus difficulties
  • Anxiety, self-esteem, or emotional regulation struggles
  • Rider-trainer communication or coachability challenges
  • Neurodevelopmental or trauma-related factors affecting performance
  • Visual-spatial or motor coordination issues

Dr. Wendy doesn’t just help you ride better—she helps you understand yourself better, so you can overcome roadblocks and reach your full potential in and out of the ring.

How to Work with Dr. Wendy

Dr. Wendy’s holistic approach transforms riders by identifying and addressing the root causes of performance struggles. Riders gain clarity, confidence, and tools to succeed in the ring and beyond.

Working with The ADD Equestrian is personal, flexible, and tailored to you.

I meet with riders, parents, and rainers either virtually or in person. In-person sessions most often take place in Tampa or Ocala, and sometimes at horse shows when we are in the same place. Sessions can be sit-down conversations, walk-and-talks, or time spent together at the barn or show, depending on what is most helpful.

Getting Started

We begin with a first session where you share your background and what you are hoping to get out of our work together. This is a chance to talk things through and get clear on what feels stuck.

By the end of the first session, we usually have:

  • A clearer understanding of what is getting in the way
  • Initial goals that make sense for you
  • A plan for how to start moving forward
Working with Teens and Families

When I work with a child or teenager, I usually start with a parent session or meet with parents and kids together to get a sense of the full picture. After that, sessions can be structured in whatever way works best for your family.

Sessions

Sessions may include talking, consulting, observing riding or lessons, or time together at the barn or show. Sessions can be in person, virtual, or by phone.

If you are not sure what type of support is right for you, we can figure that out together.

What Are People Saying?

Dr. Wendy’s insights were a game-changer. My daughter’s confidence in the ring has soared.

Parent of a Competitive Rider

It is so helpful to talk to a therapist who can be objective and understands the industry.
You and I speak the same language about the ins and outs, opportunities, challenges and the little things that make a difference. Family and non-horse friends just don’t really get it. I feel so much better after talking with you each time we meet.

18 year old client, college student and horse show employee

As an adult rider, I felt stuck. Dr. Wendy helped me find clarity and confidence, and now I’m enjoying my rides again.

Adult Rider

Went out there today and killed it again. No expectations no pressure. I just did it. I haven’t jumped that big on [my horse] in 2 years. The work we’ve been doing has finally helped me change my mindset, and the results have been incredible.

Adult amateur show jumper

Thank you for your help and walking that fine line trying to understand and empathize with me but also mentioning that I might need to stop being an asshole without saying it too harshly.

Adult amateur show jumper

Thank you so much!! Helped so much today to have a plan before the jump off.

Adult amateur show jumper

We’re having our best show yet – it’s all coming together which is pretty cool.”
